Becoming the Ocean:
A Somatic Movement Education Workshop

Saturday and Sunday, September 28 & 29

Curious about restoring your fluidity after a tight summer season? Looking to ground yourself in an introduction to somatic movement education? Wanting to come home to your body and hold space for that return in others?

Join us for this two-day workshop where we’ll take a deep dive into somatic movement education, personal development, and partnered touch experience.

We’re also offering two public somatic movement classes to expand the teachings in group movement practice—see below!

Trager Approach

In the tradition of somatic movement therapy pioneer Dr. Milton Trager, you’ll learn to experience touch with full-body presence, ease, curiosity, delight, and depth.

The Trager Approach is a form of somatic movement education that combines gentle, hands-on touch with guided movement inquiry to release deep-seated tension and enhance body awareness. This integrative practice fosters natural movement and relaxation, leading to profound physical and mental rejuvenation.

Learn to listen to the wisdom of the sensing body. Through personal movement inquiry, partner games, and group sharing we’ll explore:

  • Softening into contact with presence

  • Letting go of weight, stress, and effort

  • Floating on waves of ease

  • Connecting with the depths of being

Day 1: Softness, Presence, and Weight

Saturday 9/28 from 10:30am-5:30pm

Morning : Softness and Presence – We’ll explore softness in personal bodily experience, as intention in our own movement and presence with others, and as a quality of attention and touch.

Break for Lunch

Afternoon: Giving, Receiving and Releasing Weight – We begin with feeling our own bodies as weight in motion, feel into releasing weight as freeing ourselves from the burdens of stress, and practice distributing a partner’s weight evenly through our own structure all the way into the ground.

Roger Tolle is a Master Somatic Movement Educator and Certified Trager® Instructor with 40 years in private practice. Through 15 years as a modern dancer and extensive study with Dr. Trager and other pioneers in the field of somatic movement education, he has developed a thorough working knowledge of function in motion and the interconnected influences of mind and body. Private Trager Sessions

Roger is offering private Trager sessions to compliment the training weekend. To sign up for a 90 minute session please email his assistant Wilfred at wilfred.trager@gmail.com. Sessions are available Thursday (9/26), Friday (9/27), Monday (9/30), and Tuesday (10/1). Sessions are $150 for 90 minutes and will be held at the Yoga Joint.

Day 2: Fluidity, Waves, Connection

Sunday 9/29 from 10:30am-5:30pm

Morning: Fluidity and Waves – We’ll acknowledge the aquatic origins of human evolution and our birthing process. As we discover playfulness in the ripples and swirls of inner liquid, and float freely on the vast ocean of pleasantness, we can return ourselves to experiences of fluidity in movement and in touch.

Break for Lunch

Afternoon: Connection –  We’ll explore energetic connection with ourselves and others, take out the slack in the tissue of our bodies as well as those receiving our touch, and practice spreading out and growing up into biotensegral expansion. This allows us to sense that our tether to Earth is elastic, buoyant and joyful.
